P.I.C, NYC’s kings of hiphopunkfunkmamboska, is the new house band for sixth season of Premium Blend New York, NY, October 2002 - P.I.C is a New York City band that came to life in a tongue-in-cheek film school documentary about an ignorant, semi-militant rap crew with an incredibly silly stage show. Several actual concerts and a chart-topping album later, P.I.C has managed to evolve into an engaging, genre-busting act of supreme musicianship, performing a truly fascinating mix of hip hop, Latin rhythms, 70s funk, ska and punk -- but they have never abandoned their distinct sense of humor or their provocative on-stage antics. So it should come as no surprise that Comedy Central has selected P.I.C to be the house band for the long-running comedy showcase, Premium Blend. Starting on Saturday, October 26 at 9pm, you can enjoy P.I.C's notoriously funny and energetic show from the comfort and safety of your own living room as they perform tunes from their wildly successful debut album, hiphopunkfunkmamboska, and from their upcoming record, Sexy Picnic. And since P.I.C includes four Filipino-Americans, this is an especially momentous occasion for the Asian-American arts. Asians on television are rare enough; Asians on shows not specifically marketed to Asians rarer still. It is no small accomplishment that P.I.C is featured on a mainstream, nationally televised program entering its sixth season. Premium Blend - featuring the best stand-up comics in the country and hosted by Wanda Sykes (Inside the NFL, Chris Rock Show, Down to Earth) - airs on Comedy Central every Saturday at 9 p.m. eastern starting October 26. Tune in promptly at 9 p.m., or else you'll miss P.I.C performing the Premium Blend theme song, hiphopunkfunkmamboska. Check picscape.com for P.I.C's rankings on CMJ charts from Hawaii to Canada; samples from hiphopunkfunkmamboska and Sexy Picnic; tour dates; and reviews like these: "You could classify the music as hip-hop, but unlike most rap it's backed by a kickass live band, combining the funky musicianship of Tower of Power, the one-big-happy-family spirit of Sly and the Family Stone, the unpredictable stylistic onslaught of Fishbone and the easygoing rap attitude of De La Soul." --OffOffOff.com "Chock full of soulful grooves and big beats a plenty, P.I.C is the kind of band that make you lose control of your body without you even knowing it. . .[If] you dig your funk with tons of soul and solid musicianship, check out P.I.C for yourself." --3:16 Productions "[P.I.C] stormed my defenses and took me by surprise. First off, it's impossible to dislike this band when you see the picture of them standing somewhat awkwardly in front of the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, holding cones." --splendidezine.com About P.I.C P.I.C uses its trademarked hiphopunkfunkmamboska sound to offend, charm and confuse audiences in New York as well as around the world: over 300 radio stations nationwide have added P.I.C's wildly successful debut album "hiphopunkfunkmamboska" to their playlists, and the album has hit #1 on CMJ charts from Canada to Hawaii. And recently, Bigindiemusic.com named "hiphopunkfunkmamboska" their 2001 album of the year. A mesmerizing, pants-dropping party in concert, and equally engaging and chaotic on their recordings, P.I.C always aims to make you happy.
