New York City's P.I.C. named their 2001 debut album, 'Hiphopunkfunkmamboska', perfectly, for their weird but eminently addictive musical stew includes all of the above, and a whole heap more. Now the house band on Comedy Central's Premium Blend (satellite viewers will know), their style recalls the aftermath of a collision between the tour buses of Stevie Wonder, Arrested Development and Sly And The Family Stone, with various confused band members trying to figure out where they belong. There's no confusion here though; the scat-rapping is earthy, and the sweaty backing sounds like it was beamed in from planet P-Funk, where Stevie's 'If You Want Me To Stay' rules the airwaves. Though it may prove hard to track down, make the effort, for if you've ever loved any music, of any time, you'll love 'Sexy Picnic'. - Gillian Nash
